Wedgewood Houston Residents Called to Another Martin & Merritt Project Meeting

Saturday, July 20th at 1:00 PM

Residents of Wedgewood Houston are being asked to attend yet another community meeting regarding the Martin & Merritt project development. The meeting, scheduled for Saturday, July 20th at the South Nashville Action Project (SNAP) building, comes at the request of Metro Council Member Terry Vo and SNAP Board Members.

This marks the third community feedback session for the project, which has been in limbo since its initial presentation in March 2023. The first meeting, held at Diskin Cider, was requested by then Metro Council Member Colby Sledge. During that session, developers shared project details, fielded questions, and presented design plans, garnering positive support from the community.

However, the project has since stalled due to the Metro Council process. Despite no new developments, a second meeting was held in April 2024 at The Nashville Warehouse building, home of Wedgewood Houston Social (meeting summary). Now, with still no new content to present, another meeting has been called.

Several Wedgewood Houston residents expressed frustration with the repeated meetings. "As a past board member of SNAP, I would like to personally apologize to residents and businesses of Wedgewood Houston for your patience, investment and collaboration" said Earnest Morgan. "Your time is valuable, and we appreciate all you do to make Wedgewood Houston a great place to thrive."

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

The residents who helped create Wedgewood Houston Social to provide community members with insights for informed decision-making, is now calling for action from residents:

  1. Those who have attended previous meetings and are unable or unwilling to attend another are encouraged to send an email expressing either support or non-support for the project.

Those wishing to attend the July 20th meeting should contact SNAP for details by contacting SNAPTN@GMAIL.COM

This situation highlights the challenges faced by rapidly developing urban neighborhoods in balancing community input, developer interests, and local government processes. As Wedgewood Houston continues to evolve, the engagement and patience of its residents remain crucial in shaping the area's future.

The outcome of this meeting and its impact on the Martin & Merritt project remains to be seen. Residents are encouraged to make their voices heard, whether through attendance or written communication, to ensure their perspectives are considered in the ongoing development discussions.
