Wedgewood Houston Celebrates Juneteenth

Wedgewood Houston Celebrates Juneteenth at Fort Negley

As we commemorate Black History Month, we stand on the shoulders of trailblazers who paved the way for progress, resilience, and unity. Wedgewood Houston, a vibrant neighborhood rich in culture and diversity, proudly celebrates the achievements, artistry, and resilience of our Black community. Together, let's honor the past, amplify the present, and shape a future where equality, justice, and unity thrive. Happy Black History Month!

In the spirit of this celebration, mark your calendars, WeHo residents! On June 19, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM, the historic Fort Negley Park will come alive with the vibrant Juneteenth615 celebration.

Juneteenth, a combination of "June" and "nineteenth," commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, U.S. Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3, finally bringing the news of emancipation to enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

This FREE event, powered by the African American Cultural Alliance (AACA) and Fellavision, is a joyous celebration of freedom and community. Enjoy live music, vendors, food trucks, a kids' corner featuring a book giveaway from Book'em, and Nashville's premier Juneteenth fireworks show!

The lineup includes dancers, musicians, comedians, and a special performance by the Nashville African American Wind Symphony. Golf cart tours will also be available for those who need them.

To learn more, visit www.Juneteenth615.com or follow the event on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Don't miss this opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate freedom, and honor the rich history and resilience of African Americans. See you at Fort Negley Park on June 19!

With gratitude, The Wedgewood Houston Community
