Thumping Bass Keeps Wedgewood Houston Awake Until Dawn

If you were trying to get some shuteye last night, chances are you didn't have much luck. The booming bass and soaring vocals from the outdoor concert at the Municipal Auditorium reverberated through the streets of our neighborhood until well past 3am.

While big concerts and events are nothing new for residents living near downtown, this one seemed to be pushing the limits when it comes to Nashville's noise ordinance. The city code states that between the hours of 11pm and 7am, noise audible beyond a residence is prohibited if it could be considered unreasonably loud or disturbing.

Many Wedgewood Houston residents took to social media in the wee hours to vent about the thumping rhythms and ear-splitting guitar riffs keeping them awake. "I could hear every lyric, every drum kick like the band was playing in my bedroom," one neighbor complained.

Others suggested calling the non-emergency police line to file a noise complaint, though with thousands of fans still lingering after the show's 2am finale, enforcing the ordinance may have proven difficult.

While having a world-class event venue in our backyard is a privilege, last night's endless encore had many wondering if the auditorium's noise-reducing measures need to be re-evaluated. Or perhaps the concerts simply need to build in an explicit midnight curfew to avoid disrupting the peace in surrounding neighborhoods.

Either way, this latest all-night musical affair likely left many in Wedgewood Houston feeling cranky and underslept this morning. Hopefully our neighborhood kan catch up on their zzzz's soon!
