Celebrating Pride in Wedgewood Houston

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, a time to honor the rich heritage, culture, and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals. In the Wedgewood Houston neighborhood, we take pride in our vibrant diversity and commitment to inclusion.

Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969, when LGBTQ+ patrons at the Stonewall Inn in New York City fought back against police harassment and discrimination. This pivotal event catalyzed the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Over 50 years later, we continue working to create a society of equity, acceptance, and belonging for all.

In Wedgewood Houston, we embrace people from all backgrounds, identities, and orientations. Our neighborhood's strength comes from our diversity. LGBTQ+ residents, businesses like the popular Trax bar, families, and allies enrich our community's vibrant fabric. This June, check out the Pride events and specials at Trax, NVR NVR, Jackalope Brewery, Pink Door Cookies, Fait La Force Brewery, Diskin Cider, Americano, and Il Forno Italian. Join Wedgewood Houston Social at Jackalope Brewery on Tuesday, June 11th to celebrate Pride Month and welcome experts from Fort Negley to learn more about the restoration projects. You can find details at www.wehosocial.org.

"Pride is about more than just a parade or celebration," said Chad DiDonato, Wedgewood Houston's neighborhood ambassador. "It's about uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, validating our experiences, and taking pride in who we are. An inclusive neighborhood welcomes and empowers people of all identities to live authentically."

This Pride Month, we encourage everyone to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Attend local Pride events, support LGBTQ+-owned and allied businesses, and keep learning about the ongoing struggle for equal rights. Listen to LGBTQ+ perspectives, and use inclusive language. Most importantly, treat all people with respect, compassion and dignity.

In Wedgewood Houston, we don't just tolerate diversity – we celebrate it proudly. Let's make this June a joyful affirmation of love, equality, and unwavering Pride!
